A movie: the kingdom

have any of you watched it?
it was shown around 2 years back, in 2007. Though it's an old movie, i think the messages conveyed in the movie are important, to me.

here's my interpretation after watching it. And i think, this kind of thought about Islam, goes on up till now. What have we done to prove it is wrong?

........................................................................................................................................................................

I want to write this thing in English. But i know my English is quite bad. So, if you read it, and you found any mistakes, do not hesitate to leave a comment and correct me, ok?

I expect this is one of the famous movie playing in cinema now, and I guess everyone is quite aware of this movie. Before i got to watch it, there are many thoughts about this movie in my mind. As i read one of Malaysia's newspaper, it says that the director of The Kingdom was trying to make this movie kind of a combination between 'The Bourne' and 'C.S.I' because of the close-up effect used and the way they investigate the case in Saudi Arabia. Some say that this is about the battle between Islam and Christ and etc.

Nov 30th, finally I can watch it by myself. What brings me to watch this movie is that I think, by watching this movie, I am able to know how the director is thinking about Islam, and how he manages to put it into a movie. No matter who wins at the end, what the whole story is all about described what the director saw in Islam.

But something worries me. What if the messages in the movie about Islam are false? well, everyone is watching it, the movie has spread to all over the world..so what can I do then?

The summary

Briefly, the movie is about a terrorist attack in Saudi Arabia that destroys a building, and many women and children died. The government was trying to investigate to find out who is responsible for this attack. In the same time, the FBI in US sent some of their agents to 'help' the investigation process, for they thought they were better in investigating this kind of case than the Saudi Arabia's government. The agents were put under a captain named Faris Al-Ghazi for safety reason, for the whole 5 days of investigating in Saudi Arabia. At the end, they managed to track down the terrorist group leaded by Abu Hamza. Faris was shot during the track down as well as Abu Hamza and his people.

Here's what i concluded.

I am not a professional director, but i think the director of The Kingdom has some problems in his mind. When we direct a movie, especially when it comes to something that has to do with two sides, like Islam and Christ, we have to be fair. We cannot show in the movie that we are on this side, or the other side , because then, like in this movie, unjustness will appear.

FYI, i myself cannot write this if I am on either side. I will write as fair as I can.

I don't really support Saudi Arabia, or respect it as one of Islamic countries, because they are not truly practice Islam. In other way, they are like Malaysia, or like my friend says, they are pro-US.

i believed that there are some Islamic extremist and not only Islam, Christ also has their extremist like in the Da Vinci Code, Tamil also has extremists like LTTE, and etc. I consider someone to be an Islamic extremist when they start to do what is prohibited in Islam, like for example, killing women, old folks, or children (even in a war, it is strictly prohibited to do it on purpose) and slaughtering (even though that person is Islam's enemy) but they say that they are doing this for Islam's sake. In other word, just like Abu Hamza in The Kingdom.

Abu Hamza in this movie, knew about the coming of FBI agent to Saudi Arabia. So, they were planning an attack, and surprisingly, they record their call of 'jihad' and spread it in the internet. As the result, those FBI found out about this. Look, for me, those FBI were not coming as a threat so there's no need to attack them. In Islam, we can only attack when we are being attacked. furthermore, during the attack, they managed to catch one of the agents. Again, they treated him just like Israelis treat Palestinians, they recorded it, and they were about to slaughter him along with the call "Allahuakbar!" . ATTENTION: THIS IS NOT ISLAM.

Obviously, the movie described as if America knows everything while Saudi knows nothing. America is better in everything. This can't happen. It should show that, maybe, during the investigation, those FBI are really helping the Saudis. But instead of that, it showed that those FBI are the one who is conducting, and giving order to Saudis, to do this and that. There are absolutely no cooperation can be seen between both sides. FBI is leading, not helping. Moreover, in a scene, it showed that one of the FBI asked the Saudis to pump out water from a hole. But it seemed like no one understands English. The way they make the scene made the Saudis to looked even more stupid for not understanding English. They are laborer, they are not educated, but they are not that stupid. The director shouldn't make them to look like that. But when it comes to the part where the FBI don't understand Arab, someone simply translate it to English. Yeah, FBI is 'better', right?

What makes me think that they really wanted to make fun of Saudis, is when they made this script :
[FBI] : "Oh, shit!!"
[Faris] : "Why? Do you want to go to toilet? There's toilet over there."
(we know in this script, shit means something else, not the real shit, right?)

Before making this story, which involves muslim and Islam matters, the director should know about Islam so that people don't misunderstood it. I say this because, there's one part, where agent Janet (Jennifer Garner), is investigating over a dead muslim body. She wore gloves but when she touched the corpse's hand, one of Saudis captain tried to stop her and said it was haram. ATTENTION AGAIN:THIS IS NOT ISLAM. She already wore gloves, what's the matter with that? In this case,it is not the Saudis who doesn't know about Islam, but the director is. Islam is not that complicated.

During the attack, when they manage to track down Abu Hamza's location, to save their friend, Abu Hamza's people were hiding in a building while the FBI were outside the building, trying to hide behind their vehicle. Abu Hamza's people, I think were about 20 who were attacking and shooting them while the FBI only got 3 plus Faris gives 4 people. In that time, almost all of Abu Hamza's people got shot, but none of them got shot or even injured. How can this thing happened? Think yourself, you are on the rooftops, while your enemy is hiding behind his vehicle. who got a better view to shoot? Of course you. Even Abu Hamza's people who's hiding behind a curtain, in a small room also got shot but again, no one of them got shot. Do you think this will happen in real life?

What i got to say is that, Islam is not in Muslim, Islam lies in Islam itself. Just like, Islam is not like Abu Hamza, but Abu Hamza is a Muslim.
Islam does not support terrorism. What happen in Iraq, Palestine, Afghanistan are different from what happened in The Kingdom. Muslim in those region, are just trying to protect their homeland. They are not terrorist, they don't do terror, but Israelis do.

p/s: Until now, Palestine has not been freed. Continue to support them.
